Manchester City are reportedly interested in signing Austria international defender David Alaba, according to The Sun.

The Premier League side, who currently sit joint-top of the top-flight standings alongside Arsenal despite drawing 1-1 with Everton at the weekend, are understood to be preparing a January move for the FC Bayern Munich star.

The 24-year-old, who has 50 international caps for his country and featured for Austria in this year’s European Championships in France, has provided three assists in ten appearances in all competitions for the defending Bundesliga champions so far this season.

Alaba, who has been with the German outfit since 2008, is thought to be a target for former Bayern boss Pep Guardiola, who is now looking to guide the Citizens to another Premier League title this term.

The report suggests that club officials have already held meetings with the Austrian ace about a potential move to the Etihad Stadium over the past fortnight.
