Manchester United will be hoping to return to the Premier League’s top four when they welcome Brentford to Old Trafford on Wednesday.

The Red Devils have spent much of the season in the Champions League qualification spots, but dropped down to fifth following a defeat to Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur’s draw against Everton.

Erik ten Hag’s side will have the chance to quickly return to fourth, and could even return to third depending on Newcastle’s result against West Ham United.

In the meantime, it appears that United are preparing to sell one of their stars this summer.

According to The Manchester Evening News, The Red Devils are set to put defender Harry Maguire up for sale when the transfer window reopens this summer.

It is claimed that manager Ten Hag is keen for the club to become more ruthless when clearing out his squad, and Maguire is one of those that could be sold.

The 30, joined United from Leicester City in 2019 and was a regular for the Manchester side during his first three seasons with the club.

Things have changed since Ten Hag’s arrival last summer, though, and the England international now finds himself as United’s fourth-choice centre-back.

The likes of Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez and even Victor Lindelof appear to be ahead of him in the pecking order, with Maguire restrictd to just five Premier League starts so far this season.

In total, the ex-Foxes man has made 24 appearances across all competitions, although Ten Hag has even opted to use left-back Luke Shaw as a makeshift central defender ahead of Maguire at times.

The report also claims that those in charge of United are planning on ensuring the club sells more players than it signs this summer, in a bid to streamline Ten Hag’s squad.

As well as Maguire, Brandon Williams, Alex Telles and Anthony Martial will also all be made available, while fellow centre-back Eric Bailly will also be if he doesn’t make his loan move to Marseille a permanent one.
