Manchester United have reportedly joined rivals Manchester City in the chase to sign Spain Under-19 international defender Aaron Martin, according to Mundo Deportivo (via talkSPORT).

The Premier League side, who defeated rock-bottom Sunderland 3-0 on Sunday afternoon at the Stadium of Light to move up to fifth spot in the top-flight table, have been linked with luring the Espanyol left-back to England this summer.

The 19-year-old has made 30 appearances in all competitions for the La Liga outfit this season.

Martin, who has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign at the RCDE Stadium this term, was thought to have been scouted by Red Devils official Toni Lima during Saturday’s 1-0 victory against Alaves.

However, United will face fierce competition from City in a bid to land the highly-rated defender’s signature, with the player thought to have a £25m release clause.

United’s interest in Martin could spell the end of Luke Shaw’s career at Old Trafford, following humiliating criticism of the fellow full-back from manager Jose Mourinho.
