Manchester United are hiring a team of eight data specialists to select transfer bargains following a sting of big-money disappointments, according to the Athletic

A truly sensational story, when you think of the power of Manchester United under Sir Alex Ferguson and his ability to build three separate teams to title success.

In many ways the Red Devils were far and ahead in terms of new thinking and methods, with one the first clubs to fully adopt sport science and many other at the time revolutionary ideas.

Unfortunately for him, Alexis Sanchez is probably regarded as the biggest flop in recent seasons.

However, from a transfer perspective this was and never has been the case, with chief executive Ed Woodward facing plenty of criticism, for a string of big money transfer that have not paid off.

That disappointment could now be a thing of the past, with a team of eight specialists put in place to identify key talents which will bring success to the club.
