Manchester United were interested in signing Dominic Calvert-Lewin before hearing the fee Everton wanted for their star, according to reports.

The 23-year-old has been in great form since Carlo Ancelotti took charge in December, scoring 12 goals in 23 matches.

Four of those have come in the first two Premier League matches of this term, including a first career hat-trick in the 5-2 win over West Brom at the weekend.

It’s now being reported by The Sun that the Englishman was being targeted by United in the summer.

Calvert-Lewin has become Everton’s main man in attack.

However, it’s claimed that the Red Devils were stunned to hear that the Toffees wanted £80million for the player who cost them just £1.5million from Sheffield United in 2016.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is still aiming to bolster his squad, especially after his side’s surprise defeat against Crystal Palace.

But Calvert-Lewin, who signed a new five-year deal with Everton in March, will not be a player moving to Old Trafford.
