Manchester United will be looking to bounce back from their joint-heaviest ever defeat when they face Real Betis in the Europa League on Thursday.

Erik ten Hag’s side were on the wrong end of a humiliating 7-0 defeat against rivals Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, a result that has all-but-ended United’s already slim chances of winning the Premier League title this season.

The Red Devils, who lifted the Carabao Cup last Sunday, remain in contention to win both the FA Cup and the Europa League, but their chances of completing an unprecedented quadruple have been left in tatters.

Ten Hag will be expecting a reaction from his side, especially with a place in the last eight of the Europa League at stake.

Regardless of how successful this season proves to be for United, they look almost certain to bolster their squad during the upcoming summer transfer window, and it has now emerged that they are hopeful of landing one of the Premier League’s most impressive players.

According to The Sun, The Red Devils believe that they will be able to lure Harry Kane away from Tottenham Hotspur if The Lilywhites fail to qualify for the Champions League at the end of the season.

It is claimed that United have been in contact with the striker’s representatives through a third party, and have been encouraged by the response that they received.

Kane has regularly been linked with a move away from Tottenham in recent seasons

Spurs have previously refused to sell Kane, and it has always been suggested that a fee of more than £100 million would be required if he were to ever leave north London.

But, United now believe that their rivals would have to lower that asking price if they failed to finish in the top four this term.

At present, Antonio Conte’s side sit in fourth place in the Premier League table, although fifth-placed Liverpool are just three points behind them and have played one game fewer.

Kane, 29, is contracted to Spurs until the summer of 2024, which means that this summer’s transfer window could represent their final opportunity to demand a big fee for their talisman.

The England captain recently scored his 200th Premier League goal and, in doing so, became Tottenham’s all-time highest scorer.

In 2021, Manchester City were reportedly close to signing Kane, although a deal never materialised and The Citizens eventually landed Erling Haaland the following summer.

Since making his debut for Tottenham back in 2011, Kane has scored 268 times in 422 games for the club across all competitions, as well as providing 63 assists.

He is yet to win a trophy during his senior career, though, but a move to Old Trafford could potentially help him to end his trophy-less run.
