Manchester United host Brentford when the Premier League returns on Saturday.

The Red Devils have endured a difficult start to the new season, winning just three of their 11 games across all competitions so far this term.

A run of just two wins in seven Premier League matches has left Erik ten Hag’s side 14th in the table, piling pressure back into the Dutchman.

United have had a number of problem areas on the pitch so far this season, few more so than left-back.

Both Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw have been sidelined for the entirety of the season so far, with right-back Diogo Dalot often filling in on the left of defence in their absence.

With that in mind, it appears that United are now considering a move for one of the world’s most highly-rated left-backs.

As per Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, the Manchester outfit are interested in Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies.

Davies has emerged as a target for Manchester United

It is claimed that the Red Devils have identified the Canada international as a target for the upcoming window, as they search for reinforcements at left-back.

Davies, 23, joined Bayern from MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps five years ago and has since made more than 200 appearances for the German side across all competitions, scoring 11 goals and registering 32 assists.

The Canadian’s current contract with Bayern is set to expire at the end of the current season, and clubs are therefore beginning to show interest in the player.

The report claims that United have enquired about the requirements of a possible deal for Davies, but they do not currently rate their own chances of signing the player very highly.

It is also claimed that, if Davies does not extend his stay in Bavaria, his most likely destination would be Spanish giants Real Madrid.
