Manchester United are reportedly closing in on signing Russia international star Aleksandr Golovin, according to The Sun.

The Premier League side, who finished second in the English top-flight this term, have been strongly linked with luring the CSKA Moscow midfielder to Old Trafford ahead of the 2018-19 campaign.

The 22-year-old, who has 18 international caps for his country, scored seven goals and provided six assists in 43 appearances in all competitions for the Premier Liga outfit this season.

Golovin, who has been included in Russia’s preliminary squad for this summer’s FIFA World Cup finals, has netted 13 times in 113 games overall for CSKA.

The report claims Red Devils manager Jose Mourinho was in Innsbruck on Wednesday night to cast his eye over the central attacking midfielder, who played 76 minutes in Russia’s international friendly defeat (1-0) to Austria.

Golovin is understood to be valued at £15m, and is contracted at the VEB Arena until June 2021.

Premier League rivals Arsenal, Brighton and Hove Albion, Southampton and Newcastle United are all thought to have kept close tabs on the Russia midfielder in the past.
