Manchester United have agreed a deal for winger Antony to join from Dutch club Ajax.

A statement on The Red Devils’ website confirmed the long-awaited news, with a medical, personal terms and international clearance still needing to be finalised.

Antony, 22, has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford for much of the summer, with Erik ten Hag seemingly keen on a reunion with a player that he managed at Ajax.

The Brazilian international was rumoured to have missed training sessions in the Netherlands in an attempt to push through a move to United.

The winger was also left out of the Ajax squad for the games against both Sparta Rotterdam and FC Utrecht.

Antony will compete with the likes of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Anthony Elanga for a place in Ten Hag’s side, although he isn’t expected to be involved in their game against Leicester City on Thursday evening.

Antony is set for a move to Manchester United

A nine-time Brazil international, Antony departs Ajax after just two years with the club, having joined from Sao Paolo in 2020.

During his time in Amsterdam, he scored 24 goals and provided 22 assists in 82 games for the club.

He also has two goals and two assists to his name for Brazil, having made his debut in October last year, and was part of the squad that won gold at the 2020 summer Olympics in Tokyo.

During his stint in the Dutch capital, Antony lifted the Eredivisie title twice under Ten Hag’s management.

Antony will become United’s fifth big name signing this summer, with Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez, Christian Eriksen and Tyrell Malacia having already joined Ten Hag’s new-look side.
