Manchester United moved a step closer to qualifying for next season’s Champions League with a 1-0 win over Aston Villa on Sunday.

Bruno Fernandes’ first-half strike was enough to give The Red Devils all three points at Old Trafford, and Erik ten Hag’s side now sit seven points clear of fifth-placed Liverpool in the Premier League table.

Next up for United is a trip to the south coast to face Brighton and Hove Albion on Thursday, but in the meantime it appears that the club have been handed a boost in their pursuit of one of Europe’s most prolific strikers.

According to Football Insider, Italian side Inter Milan would be willing to sell United target Lautaro Martinez this summer.

The forward has established himself as one of Europe’s best in his position in recent seasons, but the report claims that his current employers would be willing to sell him this summer in order to raise funds.

United are set to be in the market for world class striker this summer and, while Tottenham Hotspur talisman Harry Kane is their top target, it is claimed that they could look at Martinez as an alternative.

Martinez is said to be a target for Manchester United this summer

Martinez, 25, joined Inter from Argentinian outfit Racing Club in 2018 and has since made 228 appearances for the club, scoring 95 goals and providing 32 assists across all competitions.

His current contract isn’t set to expire until the summer of 2026, but the report suggests that the striker could be made available for around £70 million this summer.

The Argentina international is said to have attracted interest from a number of clubs including Real Madrid and Arsenal, meaning that United could face stiff competition for the striker’s signature if they do make a move for him.

It is also claimed that Martinez is seen by Ten Hag as the ‘perfect forward’ to fit into his side’s system, and the club could therefore make a move for the Argentinian if they decide that Kane’s £100 million price tag is too expensive.
