Jose Mourinho is reportedly keen to bring talks forward over a new contract for Manchester United star Juan Mata, according to The Sun.
The Premier League side, who currently sit sixth in the English top-flight standings following Sunday’s 1-1 draw at home to West Ham United at Old Trafford, have reaped the benefits from the midfielder’s impressive form so far this campaign.
The 28-year-old, who has 41 international caps for Spain and featured against England in an international friendly (1-1) at Wembley Stadium earlier this month, has scored five goals and provided two assists in 18 appearances in all competitions for the Red Devils so far this season.
Mata, who arrived at The Theatre of Dreams from Premier League rivals Chelsea back in January 2014 for a then club record £37.1m, has netted 34 times and provided 22 assists overall for United since joining the club.
The Spaniard’s representatives were ready to wait until the summer to begin discussions over a new deal, with the midfielder’s current contract set to expire next summer.
