Manchester United survived an early scare to overcome Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Two early goals gave the visitors a shock lead at Old Trafford, but Erik ten Hag’s side scored three times without reply to turn the match upside down and ensure they picked up three points.

United have been unconvincing during the opening weeks of the season, and Ten Hag was dealt another blow last week as left-back Luke Shaw was ruled out for a number of weeks with injury.

Following that news, it appears that the Manchester outfit could be looking to complete a shock move for a player from one of their rivals.

As per Fabrizio Romano, United have enquired about the availability of Chelsea full-back Marc Cucurella.

The Italian journalist claims that the Red Devils have made contact with their rivals to ask for the details of a possible loan move for the Spaniard.

Cucurella has emerged as a shock target for Manchester United

Cucurella, 25, joined Chelsea from Brighton and Hove Albion last summer in a deal worth around £60 million, but the defender endured a difficult debut season in West London.

In total, the ex-Seagulls man made 33 appearances across all competitions but was criticised for a number of his performances on the left of defence and hasn’t featured so far this campaign.

The previous year, Cucurella had impressed for Brighton after joining the club from Spanish side Getafe.

He made 38 appearances across all competitions and was praised for his impressive form, with Premier League champions Manchester City also interested in the player before he signed for the Blues.

Romano claims that United have drawn up a three-man shortlist of targets as they look for a replacement for Shaw, although the Manchester club are keen to source a cheap solution.

Shaw has played an integral role for United in recent years, making more than 120 appearances for the club over the course of the last three seasons.
