Manchester United have reportedly stepped up their interest in England youth international Reece Oxford this summer, according to the Mirror.

The Premier League giants; who could only finish eighth in the English top-flight standings last term, despite winning the 2016 FA Cup under former boss Louis van Gaal, are understood to have sent scouts out to watch the highly-rated West Ham United defender recently.

The 17-year-old, who is an England Under-19 international, made 10 first-team appearances in all competitions for the Hammers last season.

Oxford; who featured for the young Three Lions against the Netherlands in the Under-19 European Championships on Friday, is predominantly a centre-half, but can also operate as a defensive midfielder.

With two years left on his current deal with West Ham, he was the subject of a failed £10m bid earlier this summer from Bundesliga outfit Red Bull Leipzig.

However the report suggests that new Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho has not been put off, despite West Ham’s unwillingness to sell the teenager.
