Manchester United fans put pressure on hierarchy as they demand the club sign a world class striker this summer, according to SkySportsNews.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was always taking a risk, when he started the season with just Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and youngster Mason Greenwood as the club’s only recognised strikers.

This was of course, after letting Romelu Lukaku (permanent) and Alexis Sanchez (loan) leave for Serie A side Inter Milan in August last year.

Rashford sustained a stress fracture in United’s FA Cup replay win over Wolves.

The decision has backfired as United find themselves struggling to make the top four and following a long-term injury sustained by Rashford, had to rush to sign Odion Ighalo on loan in January.

Ian Sterling, vice chairman of the Manchester United’s Supporters Trust had some strong words to say about the current plight of the club, and the supporters demand for a number 9 this summer.

He told SkySportsNews: “We went into this season and everyone knew that squad was light, everyone knew that squad was light,”

“You particularly looked up front where you thought as soon as we got any sort of injury we’re going to falter a bit, and that’s what’s happened.

“Martial’s not a striker, he never has been, he’s always played wide on the left. To have to depend on him as a striker we’ve left ourselves really short.”

Adding: “So yeah up front we really need to be in the market for a top class striker, someone with a proven record.”
