Manchester United will hope to return to winning ways when they host struggling Southampton on Thursday night.

The Red Devils drew 2-2 with leaders Liverpool in their last Premier League outing, before knocking rivals Arsenal out of the FA Cup courtesy of a penalty shootout victory on Sunday.

Manager Ruben Amorim will hope to see his side beat Saints on Thursday, having seen his side win just one of their previous seven Premier League games.

In the meantime, it has emerged that United are hoping to tie one of their key players down to a new contract but won’t be rushed into doing so.

As per GiveMeSport, the Manchester side are stepping up their efforts to agree a new contract with midfielder Kobbie Mainoo but won’t rush into talks with the player’s agent.

The England international has attracted interest from both Chelsea and German side Bayern Munich, but the report claims that United will attempt to agree a new deal with the player after the current transfer window slams shut.

Mainoo is a target for both Chelsea and Bayern Munich

Mainoo, 19, is a product of the Red Devils’ youth academy and has broken into the first team over the past 18 months.

The teenager has played more than 50 times for United across all competitions, and has also established himself as a regular for England.

Mainoo’s current £20,000-per-week contract with United is set to expire in 2027, but the report claims that the club are set to hold talks with the player over a new deal next month.

The player himself is said to be demanding a significant pay rise to reflect his importance in Amorim’s side, but United won’t rush into agreeing to the midfielder’s demands and will instead hold discussions next month after the transfer window has closed.
