Manchester United have reportedly joined the chase to sign France international star Dimitri Payet, according to the Daily Star.
The Premier League side, who sit sixth in the top-flight standings heading into Christmas following last Saturday’s 2-0 victory at The Hawthorns against West Brom, have been linked with the West Ham United midfielder ahead of the forthcoming January transfer window.
The 29-year-old, who has 32 international caps for his country and starred for France at this summer’s European Championships, has scored three goals and provided seven assists in 18 appearances in all competitions for The Hammers so far this season.
Payet, who joined West Ham from Ligue 1 outfit Marseille back in June 2015 for a reported £10.7m, is also said to be a transfer target for Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger in the New Year.
The Red Devils have now also joined the hunt to land the Frenchman’s signature, despite the player signing a new long-term contract with Slaven Bilic’s side back in February worth around £120,000-a-week.
However, the report suggests United will attempt to lure Payet away from the London Stadium by offering the attacking midfielder a wage of £220,000-a-week.
