Manchester United are reportedly interested in re-signing England international Danny Drinkwater, according to The Sun.

The Premier League side, who currently sit sixth in the English top-flight table following Sunday’s 1-1 draw at home to West Ham United, have been linked with trying to lure the Leicester City midfielder back to Old Trafford during the forthcoming January transfer window.

The 26-year-old, who has three international caps for the Three Lions, but was not included in England’s final 23-man Euro 2016 squad earlier this summer, has provided one assist in 19 appearances in all competitions for the Foxes so far this season.

Drinkwater, who left United for Leicester back in January 2012 for an undisclosed fee, won the 2015-16 Premier League title with Claudio Ranieri’s men last term.

However, Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho is on the lookout for a new defensive midfielder to help world record signing Paul Pogba roam freely and attack more, with Chelsea’s John Obi Mikel also being linked.

The report also adds that Leicester’s progress into the knockout stages of the Champions League this year could scupper a deal for Drinkwater in the new year.
