Manchester United are reportedly ready to launch a £25million bid for Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane in the summer, according to the Daily Mirror.

The Red Devils are said to be long-term admirers of the 23-year-old centre-back, and were close to signing him back in 2011, but they opted to bring in Phil Jones from Blackburn Rovers instead.

However United, who are looking to strengthen a central defence where Daley Blind has been a regular this term despite being relatively unfamiliar to the role, are now ready to to turn their attentions back to the France international, who has fallen out of favour at the Bernabeu this term.

Varane has struggled to break up the partnership between Pepe and Sergio Ramos at the heart of Real’s defence, and he could decide to leave the Spanish capital at the end of the season in search of regular first team football.
