Manchester United have reportedly identified Denmark international Kasper Schmeichel as their ideal replacement for David De Gea, should he leave for Real Madrid, according to The Sun.

The 13-time Premier League champions, who defeated Liverpool 1-0 at Anfield on Sunday, have been impressed by the Leicester City shot stopper’s displays this campaign.

The 29-year-old, who has 17 international caps for his country, has kept six clean sheets in 22 league games for the surprise joint table toppers this season.

The Foxes star; who is the son of former United goalkeeping legend Peter Schmeichel, is preferred by Red Devils assistant manager Ryan Giggs over alternative target Samir Handanovic (Inter Milan), should number one ‘keeper De Gea be tempted in a move to the Bernabeu during the January transfer window or in the summer.
