Manchester United are reportedly eyeing a move for France international defender Samuel Umtiti, according to the Daily Mirror.
The Premier League side, who suffered a 1-0 defeat to defending league champions Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, have been linked with the FC Barcelona defender ahead of the forthcoming January transfer window.
The 23-year-old, who has 12 international caps for his country, has made 15 appearances in all competitions for the La Liga leaders so far this season.
Umtiti, who arrived at the Nou Camp back in June 2016 following his reported €25m move from Ligue 1 outfit Lyon, has scored one goal in 58 games overall for the Spanish giants.
However, the report suggests the Frenchman has become a New Year transfer target for Red Devils manager Jose Mourinho, who is keen to recruit further defensive players during the forthcoming transfer window.
‘The Special One’ is still after an ideal centre-half partner for Eric Bailly, having been unimpressed with £30m summer signing Victor Lindelof so far this term.
Umtiti’s current contract at Barca runs out in June 2021, and is understood to have a buyout clause of £53m.
