Scotland are on the verge of qualifying for next year’s Euros after a 3-0 win over Cyprus on Friday evening.

Early goals from Scott McTominay, Ryan Porteous and John McGinn put the Tartan Army in a commanding position in Cyprus, and then held on to move nine points clear at the top of Group A.

Steve Clarke’s side have won all five of their matches so far and, although second-placed Spain have two games in hand, Scotland have all-but-confirmed their qualification for the tournament next year.

McTominay’s goal drew him level with Romelu Lukaku and Rasmus Hojlund as the joint top scorer of the qualification campaign so far, with the midfielder having netted six times so far.

Now, it has emerged that the player rejected a move away from Manchester United on deadline day.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano, the Scot declined the chance to join fellow Premier League club Fulham late in the transfer window.

The Italian journalist claims that the Cottagers had lined up a move for the 26-year-old as a potential replacement for Joao Palhinha, who came close to joining German side Bayern Munich.

McTominay was offered the chance to leave Manchester United on transfer deadline day

The Portuguese was in Bavaria in anticipation of completing the proposed move, but it ultimately collapsed late on and he returned to West London.

McTominay is a product of the United youth system and has made more than 210 appearances for the Red Devils across all competitions.

He has netted 19 goals and provided five assists during that time, but he may struggle for game time this season following the arrivals of Mason Mount and Sofyan Amrabat.

The likes of Christian Eriksen, Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes are also vying for a place in Erik ten Hag’s midfield, which could limit McTominay’s opportunities this term.
