Manchester United are plotting to hijack Liverpool’s move for Porto star Luis Diaz, having sent scouts to watch the star over the weekend.

As per Portuguese outlet O’Jogo, the Red Devils sent scouts to assess the 25-year-old in action, and the Colombian impressed with them in attendance.

The Colombia international scored Porto’s second goal in a 3-1 victory over Familicao, which extended their lead at the top of the Primeira Liga to six points.

Liverpool had been heavily linked with a move for the player, who reportedly has a £67 million release clause in his contract.

Any potential suitors for the player would reportedly have to meet the figure, too, as he has two-and-a-half years remaining on his current deal and Porto are in no rush to sell their talisman.

Diaz has registered 16 goals and six assists in 28 top flight matches so far this term.

Jurgen Klopp was believed to be keen on signing the player to provide competition for places in attack as well as acting as cover for Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, both of whom are currently on international duty at the African Cup of Nations, with Senegal and Egypt respectively.

United’s interest in the player threatens Liverpool’s chances of signing the player, however, with the Red Devils looking to replace Anthony Martial, who is close to joining Spanish side Sevilla on loan.
