Manchester United travel to Bramall Lane on Thursday night to face a Sheffield United side still searching for their first Premier League win of the season.

After an admirable ninth placed finish last term, the Blades are in fact the only out of the 92 clubs in the top-flight and EFL which are winless.

On the other hand, United head to Yorkshire on a five-match unbeaten run in the Premier League which most recently saw them draw 0-0 with rivals Man City at the weekend.

United are in good form in the Premier League.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side know a fifth win in six matches will take them to within a point of the top-four and just five adrift of leaders Liverpool but with a game in hand.

This fixture produced goals galore last season with United coming from 2-0 down to lead 3-2, only for Oli McBurnie to score a late equaliser in a 3-3 thriller.

But who will Solskjaer pick to try and go one better and register three points on Thursday?

Here we predict the Manchester United starting XI to take on Sheffield United at Bramall Lane…

Goalkeeper:

Despite rumours of a change, David De Gea was back between the sticks in the Premier League at the weekend and did his job by securing a clean sheet against City. However, despite that, Dean Henderson could get an opportunity to face the club where he made his name the past two seasons. The Englishman was fantastic in his loan spells with the Blades and could now be set to make his sixth appearance of the season against them.

Defenders:

United played with a back-four against Manchester City and looked far more solid than they did with the back-three they started with in the Champions League exit at RB Leipzig. Having kept a clean sheet against their rivals it’s very unlikely that Solskjaer will change anything in this area. This means you can expect Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw to line up from right to left again.

Midfielders:

Solskjaer seems to have his preferred system and players in the midfield area so, despite a lack of creativity against Man City at the weekend, we can expect the sitters Fred and Scott McTominay to be tasked with that job once again. In front of them the star man, Bruno Fernandes, will hope to add to his seven goals and four assists in the Premier League this term. Paul Pogba, who started against City, will most likely be back on the bench for this one.

Forwards:

United’s defence has been called into question more than their attack in recent times, but against City they looked toothless. Due to that it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Solskjaer recall Anthony Martial to the starting XI. The Frenchman has yet to find the net in the Premier League this season and has just two goals in all competitions so this could be the night for him to find the form of last term. Alongside Martial, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood, who both scored in this fixture last season, should keep their place in the XI. Meanwhile, Edinson Cavani might be fit for the bench after missing the last two games through injury.

Predicted Manchester United XI: Henderson; Wan-Bissaka, Maguire, Lindelof, Shaw; Fred, McTominay, Fernandes; Greenwood, Rashford, Martial.
