Manchester United are pushing to tie star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic to a new two-year extension at Old Trafford, according to reports from The Sun.
The former Barcelona and Paris Saint Germain forward has bagged 19 goals so far in his maiden Premier League season and, having originally decided to activate a one-year extension in his deal, manager Jose Mourinho is now looking for the Swede to commit until 2019, when he will be 37.
The retired Sweden international has silenced critics in the last couple of months. Having started the campaign brightly, much like the United side, Ibrahimovic had a slump in form before going on his recent hot streak, which led to many claiming he was not cut out for Premier League football.
The 35-year-old has been integral to the Red Devils’ up-turn in form in recent weeks and grabbed the all-important equaliser against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool at the weekend.
Furthermore, Old Trafford youngster Marcus Rashford has praised the former Inter Milan striker’s influence around the club and hailed him as one of the best he has played with.
