Manchester United are reportedly preparing a whopping £54m raid for Colombia international star James Rodriguez, according to El Confidencial (via Manchester Evening News).

The Premier League side, who finished fifth in the English top-flight standings last term and therefore missed out on Champions League football later this year, have been continuously linked with a move for the Real Madrid attacking midfielder throughout the summer transfer window.

The 25-year-old, who has 48 international caps for his country, scored eight goals and provided ten assists in 32 appearances in all competitions for the La Liga giants last term.

Rodriguez, who joined Real from Ligue 1 outfit AS Monaco back in July 2014 following his mega €80m transfer after the FIFA World Cup in Brazil, has fallen out of favour at the Bernabeu.

The report suggests that the player’s agent, Jorge Mendes, met with United’s executive vice-chairman, Ed Woodward, about a potential deal for the Colombian ace.
