Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is ready to bring ‘keeper David de Gea level with the likes of Wayne Rooney, Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, in terms of pay, in order to keep hold of the Spaniard, according to reports from The Star.

The Spaniard is a top target for European giants and last season’s Champions League winners, Real Madrid, who are reportedly eyeing a £55m deal for the shot-stopper.

De Gea, who joined United from Real’s city rivals, Atletico Madrid, in 2011, has made over 260 appearances for the Red Devils, keeping an impressive 92 clean sheets during his time in English football.

Currently on a £200k-a-week deal at Old Trafford, the powers that be are prepared to give the ‘keeper, who has been their star man in recent seasons – keeping their showings respectable since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson, parity with the club’s top earners, giving him a hike of around £100k-a-week.
