Manchester United are reportedly ready to meet the £84m release clause in a bid to land France international star Antoine Griezmann next year, according to The Telegraph.

The Premier League side, who defeated West Brom 3-0 at The Hawthorns on Saturday to record three successive top-flight victories heading into Christmas, have been continually linked with a move for the Atletico Madrid during previous transfer windows.

The 25-year-old, who has 39 international caps for his country, has scored an impressive nine goals and provided six assists in 21 appearances in all competitions for the La Liga outfit so far this season.

Griezmann, who finished as Euro 2016’s Golden Boot winner after netting six times for finalists France, has been identified as Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho’s top transfer target during the forthcoming two windows.

However, the report suggests that United would need to trigger the player’s astronomical release clause fee (84m), after the forward signed a new deal with Atletico until 2021 back in June.
