Manchester United have sacked Erik ten Hag following their 2-1 defeat against West Ham United on Sunday.

Jarrod Bowen’s added-time penalty earned the Hammers an impressive victory over the Red Devils at The London Stadium, leaving United 14th in the Premier League table.

The club confirmed on Monday that those in charge of the Manchester club have dismissed the Dutchman after two-and-a-half-years at the club.

Ten Hag took charge of United in the summer of 2022 and has since found himself under significant pressure at a number of different points.

He was close to being sacked at the end of last term, before victory over rivals Manchester City in the FA Cup final saved his job temporarily.

The Dutchman has guided United to their two worst ever starts to Premier League seasons over the past two years, and those in charge of the club will now begin the search for his successor.

Ten Hag won 72 of his 128 matches in charge of United

In total Ten Hag won 72 of his 128 matches in charge of United across all competitions, losing 36 times.

They have started the new season particularly poorly, winning just four of their 14 matches across all competitions.

Former United striker Ruud Van Nistelrooy, who was on Ten Hag’s coaching staff, has been named as interim manager and will take charge of the club for their Carabao Cup tie against Leicester City on Wednesday.
