Manchester United are tracking Spartak Moscow goalkeeper Aleksandr Maksimenko as a potential replacement for David de Gea, according to Sport24.ru

The Spaniard, who has won the Red Devils’ Player of the Season award four of the past five years, is contracted to the club until 2020.

However, boss Jose Mourinho recently said he was “not confident” when asked if his number 1, whose situation is being followed closely by Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain, would sign an extension.

And it now seems that the Old Trafford club are starting to think about a successor in case they lose their star man.

Maksimenko has made 15 appearances for Spartak this term.

Reports in Russia say United’s chief Eastern European scout Krsto Kilibarda went to watch Maksimenko, 20, in Spartak’s 1-1 draw against Rubin Kazan on Monday.

The young Russian has impressed so far in what is his first full campaign as the club’s first-choice between the sticks.

However, the starlet would have huge gloves to fill if he were to replace De Gea, who’s made 328 appearances for the Premier League giants.
