Manchester United will begin their Premier League title hunt when they host Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford on Monday.

The Red Devils will face a Wolves side that will be relatively under-prepared for the new season after they recently replaced Julen Lopetegui with former Bournemouth boss Gary O’Neil, just a week before the new campaign starts.

Erik ten Hag’s side, on the other hand, will be very confident going into the new season after bringing in three marquee signings to bolster their squad.

United brought in Mason Mount, Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund to try and address the weaknesses in Ten Hag’s side from the last term.

As well as bringing in players to bolster the squad, the Red Devils have also been focused on moving on surplus players.

The Likes of Alex Telles, Anthony Elanga, and David de Gea have departed Old Trafford this summer.

United have also reportedly agreed on a deal to sell out-of-favour defender Harry Maguire to West Ham United this term.

Now it seems that the Mancunians have their ideal replacement for Maguire in mind.

According to Sky Sports News, Manchester United are expected to make a move for Benjamin Pavard if  Maguire leaves the club.

Benjamin Pavard has emerged as one of Manchester United’s ideal contenders to replace Harry Maguire, who looks set to depart the club

The report claims that the Red Devils are carrying out due diligence on many defenders and that Pavard has emerged as a strong option.

The Frenchman had gained a lot of admirers during his time at VfB Stuttgart and after his impressive performances as a right-back for France in the 2018 World Cup, including his Puskas award nomination against Argentina.

Although Pavard typically plays as a right-back, he also appears very comfortable playing as a centre-back.

Pavard, 27, left Stuttgart for Bayern Munich for around £31.4 in 2019 and has played his role in the Bavarians’ consecutive league title wins since.

The defender has made 162 total appearances for Bayern, but it has become clear that the defender plans on leaving the club this summer.

The fee needed to lure the Bavarians into selling the defender shouldn’t be too high, as the Frenchman only has a year left on his current contract.
