Manchester United enjoyed a great transfer window, now they are focusing on retaining their current stars.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to United 12 years after leaving to join Real Madrid for a world record £80million was the ultimate crescendo to a transfer window which had already seen Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane arrive for a combined £114m.

However, they are now looking to tie some of their key players to new contracts at the club.

A charm offensive to convince Paul Pogba to sign a new deal has already began, with the Frenchman free to leave for a free transfer next season.

However, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said to Sky Sports News the club are in talks to commit Jesse Lingard to a new contract.

Lingard scored in United’s recent 4-1 home victory against Newcastle United

“He’s got this season left of his contract and the club is talking to him and his dad, and we see him as a Man United player in the future as well,” said the Norwegian boss.

“Jesse has come back to us after a great spell at West Ham. He showed his qualities, he’s got back into the England squad and he’s scoring goals for England.

“We really want to see the best of Jesse this season and we hope to see him. We support him, and we hope to keep him here with us. He’s a Red through and through.”

Jesse has been a United player since 2008, bursting through all of the youth teams.

His future looked finite when he was sent on loan to West Ham United last season.

However, his excellent performances for West Ham convinced Solskjaer to keep the Englishman in his plans.
