Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata has reportedly turned down a mega-money move to China, according to the Mirror.

The Premier League side, who sit level on points with arch rivals Manchester City (19) at the top of the English top-flight standings, visit rivals Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.

The 29-year-old, who has 41 international caps for his country, has scored one goal in nine appearances in all competitions for The Red Devils so far this season.

Mata, who arrived at Old Trafford back in January 2014 following his then club-record £37.1m move from Premier League rivals Chelsea, has netted 37 times in 155 games overall for United, winning the FA Cup, the League Cup, an FA Community Shield and the UEFA Europa League.

The report suggests the central midfielder has rejected the chance of a lucrative transfer to the Chinese Super League, where he would have earned a significant increase on his current £165,000-a-week wage at The Theatre of Dreams.

Furthermore, after Mata’s latest decision, the club are set to trigger a one-year extension in his current deal, which is due to expire in June 2018.
