Manchester United will take a healthy three-goal lead into their Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Nottingham Forest on Wednesday.

Goals from Marcus Rashford, Wout Weghorst and Bruno Fernandes gave The Red Devils a comfortable 3-0 victory in the first leg at The City Ground last week, putting United in a promising position to reach the final at Wembley.

It remains unclear whether or not United will be active on the final day of the January transfer window, with speculation continuing to link the club with a number of players.

Several of their current stars have also been linked with departures from Old Trafford, but one of their defenders is now expected to stay put.

As reported by The Daily Star, Harry Maguire has rejected the chance to join Inter Milan.

The report claims that the England international was offered a move to the Serie A side on a loan deal until the end of the season, but he has instead opted to stay put and fight for his place.

Maguire, 29, joined United from Leicester City back in 2019 for a fee of £80 million, a record for a defender at the time.

He was a regular at the heart of The Red Devils’ defence at first, missing just 12 Premier League games across his first three seasons at Old Trafford.

Things have changed since the arrival of Erik ten Hag, though, with the Englishman having fallen down the pecking order quite drastically.

Having started United’s first two league games of the season – defeats against both Brighton and Brentford – the defender has since lost his place and has played just one single minute across United’s last three league games.

The likes of Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez and Victor Lindelof have been preferred at centre-back, while Ten Hag has also even deployed Maguire’s England teammate Luke Shaw, naturally a left-back, at the heart of defence ahead of the former Foxes man.

The report also claims that Maguire will reassess his position at the end of the current season, and it is suggested that he will push for a move away from Old Trafford if his situation hasn’t improved.

In total, Maguire has made 160 appearances for United across all competitions since joining the club three-and-a-half years ago.

If Maguire does become available in the summer, Inter Milan are once again expected to be interested in the defender.
