Manchester United are eyeing up a sensational move for Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil this summer, according to The Mirror.

The 28-year-old has scored six goals and laid on six assists in 24 Premier League appearances for the Gunners this term, but appears no nearer to agreeing a new deal at the Emirates, with his current one due to expire next summer.

That could leave Arsenal vulnerable to offers this summer, and it seems that Jose Mourinho’s United are keen on bringing him to Old Trafford in a move that would reunite the Portuguese with the German World Cup winner.

Red Devils boss Mourinho brought him to Real Madrid back in 2010 from Werder Bremen, and Ozil went on to net 27 times and lay on 81 assists in 159 games for the Spanish giants before moving to Arsenal in 2013, just a few months after Mourinho left the Bernabeu.

And now it appears that the 54-year-old is hoping to link up with the playmaker at United as he hopes to take the Manchester outfit back to the top of the Premier League.

Mourinho’s first season at Old Trafford has been solid if unspectacular, in which time he has won the League Cup, but is in danger of missing out on Champions League football.

The Red Devils are currently sixth in the Premier League table, seven points behind neighbours Manchester City, ahead of this afternoon’s clash at Sunderland.
