Manchester United reportedly face stiff competition from Paris Saint-Germain to sign Brazil international star Frederico Rodrigues de Paula Santos, according to Manchester Evening News.
The Premier League side, who face Chelsea in the 2018 FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium on Saturday evening, have been continuously linked with a summer swoop for the Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder.
The 25-year-old, who has seven international caps for his country, has scored four goals and provided seven assists in 37 appearances in all competitions for the Ukrainian outfit this season.
Better known as ‘Fred’, who joined Shakhtar back in June 2013 following his reported €15m move from Internacional, has netted 15 goals in 155 games overall for the club.
However, the central midfielder has been linked with a lucrative move away this summer, and it is understood that Ligue 1 champions PSG will now battle United for the player’s signature.
Fred is contracted at Shakhtar until June 2023, but his deal includes a release clause worth €60million (approximately £53m).
The Red Devils’ rivals Manchester City have cooled their interest in luring the Brazilian to the Etihad Stadium after opting not to firm up their interest during the previous January transfer window.
