Manchester United could reportedly offer Spain international star David De Gea a new contract, according to El Confidencial.
The Premier League side, who visit leaders Chelsea on Monday night in their FA Cup quarter-final clash, have been wary of Real Madrid’s long-term pursuit of their goalkeeper, but it now seems the player himself has put any transfer talks on hold.
The 26-year-old, who has 18 international caps for his country, has kept 12 clean sheets in 35 appearances in all competitions for The Red Devils so far this season.
De Gea, who arrived at Old Trafford back in June 2011 following his reported £17.8m switch from La Liga outfit Atletico Madrid, has won the Premier League title, the FA Cup, the League Cup and three FA Community Shields since moving to Manchester.
The report suggests that the Spaniard wants to focus on getting United back into the UEFA Champions League and has asked agent, Jorge Mendes, to hold off any potential transfer to the Bernabeu.
In addition, United will look to make the most of this good news by offering the shot stopper a new deal.
