Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag will be keen to bolster his squad this summer in an effort to compete with rivals Manchester City next term.

The Red Devils finished third in Ten Hag’s first season in charge, as well as winning the Carabao Cup and reaching the final of the FA Cup.

United lost Cristiano Ronaldo back in November when the Portugal international left to move to Saudi Arabia and his replacement – loanee Wout Weghorst – failed to score a single goal in the Premier League after joining from Burnley in January.

The Dutchman has now returned to the Clarets, and United reportedly have a plan in place for this summer’s window.

According to Football Insider, the Manchester outfit plan to make a marquee signing in attack this summer in an effort to compete with rivals Manchester City.

The report claims that those in charge of the club believe that an established, high-profile forward could help to close the gap between United and treble-winners City.

Kane remains one of Manchester United’s top targets for this summer

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane is said to be among United’s top targets, although it remains to be seen whether or not Spurs chairman Daniel Levy would sell the England captain to a rival.

German champions Bayern Munich are also said to have made an offer for Kane in recent days, which could make it even more difficult for United to land the striker.

Kane scored 30 goals in the Premier League last season, a tally that was only bettered by Manchester City star Erling Haaland.

Other targets that United are keeping tabs on include Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, Eintracht Frankfurt’s Randal Kolo Muani, and Atalanta star Rasmus Hojlund.

Last season forward Marcus Rashford, who primarily plays on the left, netted 30 goals in 56 matches across all competitions, but United are hoping to sign a more traditional striker that will operate centrally next term.
