Manchester United, still relishing their derby day win last time out, host a struggling Everton side suffering from back-to-back losses.
The Red Devil’s inconsistent form has put huge amounts of pressure on manager Louis van Gaal this season. However when the Dutchman has needed a result, his team usually deliver and this was the case again last time out.
There win over Manchester City threw the top four race wide open and has given the red side of Manchester hope of European football next year.
They face a Toffees side with a similar problem of inconsistency. Just when it seemed everything had clicked into place after their FA Cup win over Chelsea, Everton failed to offer Arsenal much of a game last time out.
This tie will be decided on which United turns up. If it is the quick, creative and direct side which beat City two weeks ago, then Everton are in for a very tough game.
Manchester United’s inconsistent form this season may well be down to their growing list of injuries. Van Gaal will once again be without a number of senior players this weekend.
Wayne Rooney (knee), Bastian Schweinsteiger (knee), Ashley Young (groin) and Ander Herrera (groin) are all still injured with defender Phil Jones (ankle) a doubt.
Meanwhile the Toffees have a new concern with John Stones picking up a knee injury in England’s friendly against Holland on Tuesday.
Stones accompanies long-term casualties Titus Browning and Steven Pienaar on the sidelines. Bryan Oviedo may also miss the trip to Old Trafford as he continues recovering from illness.
