Manchester United face Watford at Old Trafford on Wednesday night, having been rejuvenated in their last two games by a teenage sensation scoring in both of his professional starts so far.
18-year-old Marcus Rashford scored twice in his side’s 3-2 win against Arsenal on Sunday, as well as setting up another – taking his tally to four in two games, having netted a brace in the Europa League on Thursday.
That win against the Gunners means United are just three points behind fourth-placed rivals Manchester City, albeit having played one more game, and they have now scored 11 times in their last three matches in all competitions.
With the likes of West Ham and Chelsea keeping the pressure up on Louis van Gaal’s team, they Dutchman will be keen to take three points against the visitors from Hertfordshire.
Watford are enjoying a successful campaign in their first season back in the top flight following promotion from the Championship – with 11 games left, safety is practically secured.
The Hornets are currently 12th in the table and still harbour outside hopes of European football – victory at the Theatre of Dreams would move them to within four points of their opponents.
Quique Sanchez Flores’ men have taken four points from their last two outings – their previous game on Saturday saw them play out a goalless draw with Bournemouth.
In the reverse fixture, Watford were beaten 2-1 at Vicarage Road with Memphis Depay and Troy Deeney, at both ends, on the scoresheet.
Matteo Darmian is nearing recovery for the hosts, as is Anthony Martial, while Marcos Rojo and Chris Smalling are rated 50-50.
Rashford’s hot form means he is likely to keep his place at the front of the Red Devils’ line-up – on the striker front, Wayne Rooney is out until April.
Watford have no new injury concerns – Jose Manuel Jurado remains absent, as does Joel Ekstrand, while Etienne Capoue is fit despite being substituted against Bournemouth because of tiredness.
