Manchester United are reportedly preparing a last-ditch offer to sign England international midfielder Eric Dier this summer, according to the Mirror.

The Premier League side, who finished sixth in the English top-flight standings last term, but lifted the UEFA Europa League and the EFL Cup, have been continually linked with a mega-money move for the Tottenham Hotspur star.

The 23-year-old, who has 19 international caps for The Three Lions, scored two goals and provided two assists in 48 appearances in all competitions for Spurs last season, who finished as runners-up to league champions Chelsea.

Dier, who arrived at White Hart Lane back in August 2014 following his £4m transfer from Sporting Lisbon, has netted eight times in 135 games overall for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

The report suggests The Red Devils were hopeful a bid of £40m and an offer to double the players’ wages would be enough for Dier to be lured to Old Trafford, but Tottenham are determined to keep hold of their versatile star ahead of the 2017-18 campaign.

However, boss Jose Mourinho is now considering a final take it or leave it offer of £60m for Dier, who only signed a new five-year deal with Spurs last September worth around £70,000-a-week.
