Wayne Rooney is reportedly set to be left out of Manchester United’s starting XI to face Arsenal on Saturday, according to the Mirror.

The 31-year-old, who has 119 international caps for England, has scored two goals and provided seven assists in 15 appearances in all competitions for the Red Devils so far this season.

However, the captain is set to be overlooked by United manager Jose Mourinho for this weekend’s clash at Old Trafford against the Gunners.

Despite the ‘Special One’ already being without the suspended Zlatan Ibrahimovic for Saturday’s tie, Mourinho could opt to start fellow Three Lions star Marcus Rashford up front against Arsene Wenger’s side.

Rooney, who sat out England’s 2-2 draw against Spain in midweek due to a “minor knee injury”, has started just one of the Red Devils’ last six league outings.

The forward has netted 246 goals in 533 games for the Premier League giants overall since arriving from Everton back in 2004.
