Manchester United are reportedly plotting a surprise move for England international Jack Butland, according to the Daily Mail.
The 13-time Premier League champions, who face Southampton this weekend, have identified the Stoke City goalkeeper as a potential replacement for fellow shot stopper David De Gea should he join Real Madrid.
The 22-year-old, who has three international caps for the Three Lions, has kept nine clean sheets in all 22 league games for the Potters this season.
Butland; who joined Mark Hughes’ side from Birmingham City in a deal worth up to £3.5m back in January 2013, has been in sensational form for Stoke this campaign, alerting Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal to his services should Spain international De Gea be tempted in a summer move to the Bernabeu.
Only Manchester City’s Joe Hart and Arsenal’s Petr Cech (Both 10) have kept more clean sheets than Butland in the Premier League this term.
