Manchester United are reportedly considering making an enormous £45m raid for England international John Stones, according to the Manchester Evening News.
The 13-time Premier League champions, who face Southampton this weekend, have been heavily linked with a move for the highly-rated Everton defender alongside defending champions Chelsea this campaign.
The 21-year-old, who has seven international caps for the Three Lions, has made 25 appearances in all competitions for Roberto Martinez’s Toffees this season.
Stones, who arrived at Goodison Park from Barnsley almost three years ago in a deal worth £3m, is also said to be interesting United’s fierce rivals Manchester City and La Liga giants FC Barcelona.
After Chelsea made a final offer of £37m for the promising centre-half during the previous summer transfer window; Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal is willing to throw £45m at Everton for Stone’s services as United are tipped to become the richest club in the world within the next 12 months.
