Arsenal legend Martin Keown says manager Arsene Wenger must be seriously considering his future following Wednesday 5-1 mauling at the Allianz Arena.

The 50-year-old, who lifted three Premier League titles, three FA Cups and three FA Community Shields under the Frenchman during his career at The Gunners, was left shell shocked after watching his former club get torn apart by FC Bayern Munich in the second-half of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 first leg last night.

BT Sport’s football expert Keown explained, “Honestly, I feel for Arsene Wenger now, it’s almost embarrassing.

“Outclassed, outplayed, they did it at a canter. What is it now, 20 years, seriously now Arsene Wenger must be considering his future because that was embarrassing.”

With only the FA Cup remaining as Arsenal’s realistic chance of silverware this season, matchday presenter Gary Lineker then asked the former Gunners centre-half whether he would like to see the Frenchman depart the North London outfit.

Keown responded, “I can’t ever say that I would like to see him go when you have won things, he is almost my footballing father, you do things as a family.

“He is an intelligent man and this is obviously his lowest point ever at Arsenal.”

Arsenal, who currently sit 10 points adrift of leaders Chelsea in the Premier League standings, face a momentous task if they are to progress into the quarter-finals of the Champions League early next month.

Wenger’s side have failed to reach the last-eight of the European Elite competition in each of their last six attempts, being knocked out twice by both Bayern and FC Barcelona previously, as well as AC Milan and AS Monaco.

Arsenal welcome Carlo Ancelotti’s Bayern to the Emirates Stadium on March 7 for the return leg.
