Mauricio Pochettino must axe these 3 Tottenham players in January

It’s been just under two months since the Premier League season began, but it’s already getting to that time of the year whereby players are being linked with moves when the transfer window opens in January.

The international break this fortnight gives Premier League managers a little bit of time to assess their squad of players, and perhaps decide upon the future of certain stars at their club.

Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino could well be one of those using these two weeks to identify those players that may need to be moved on in the New Year.

Spurs have made an excellent start to the Premier League season, and the 2-0 win over Manchester City saw them cut the gap to Pep Guardiola’s side at the top to just two points.

Yet, Pochettino may feel that it’s time to move some players on, so here are THREE players he should look to sell in January…

Tom Carroll

Tom Carroll has shown in the past to be a very gifted central midfielder, and there was a time where he played a key role in the Tottenham midfield.

However, that time appears to be over, and the 24-year-old should look to move away from White Hart Lane in a bid for regular first team football.

He has spent time on loan at Queens Park Rangers and, more recently, Swansea City, so it’s clear that good sides rate him highly and want him in their squad.

In his six years since signing a professional contract at Spurs, he’s made just four Premier League starts, and it doesn’t look like he’s going to add many more to that any time soon.

Kieran Trippier

There are probably a number of players in the Tottenham squad that feel that they deserve to start more regularly, and may hang around the club given the amount of competitions Spurs are in this season.

Kieran Trippier may be one of those players, but just two appearances so far this season – one in the EFL Cup and one in the Champions League – suggests that he’s not in the manager’s plans when it comes to the Premier League.

In fact, since the 26-year-old arrived at White Hart Lane in 2015, he has started more European matches than league ones, which may be enough to keep him satisfied at Spurs.

However, if he wants to fully develop into the full-back we’ve all seen in patches for both Spurs and Burnley, then a move away may be beneficial.

Michel Vorm

Michel Vorm is probably in a similar situation to Trippier.

He will definitely play in whatever competition if number one choice Hugo Lloris gets injured, like he did at the start of the season, but he also knows that if Lloris is fully fit, he’s not going to dislodge him.

Being the number two goalkeeper must be one of the most difficult situations to be in but, for the sake of Vorm’s career progression, maybe a move away to a club where he will be number one is more beneficial.

At 32-years-of-age, the Dutch keeper should be at his peak and, based on what we saw when he was at Swansea a few years ago, he could be a seriously good and reliable goalkeeper if played regularly.
