Mikel Arteta hoping to make transfer statement as Arsenal are in talks with Atletico Madrid over a January move for Thomas Lemar, according to the RMC Sport

Lemar has been heavily linked with a move away from the Spanish capital for some time now, having failed to match the expectation of him when he arrived at Atletico.

The France international signed for Diego Simeone’s side for £52million from AS Monaco back in 2018 and has certainly not reached the level the club had hoped for.

Atletico need to fund Cavani’s wages if he makes the move to the Spanish club.

That aside, the . year-old is clearly a talent and one in which Arsenal boss Arteta will be hoping to sign before the January window slams shut.

Both Arsenal and their North London rivals tried to sign Lemar in 2017 before he made his move to Atletico.

With Atletico seemingly securing the services of Edison Cavani, a sale to fund his wages is very much desirable for the La Liga side.

However, they are hoping to recoup the majority of the £52million fee which could be a stumbling block for Arsenal.
