Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is plotting a sensational £40 million move to reunite with Chelsea winger Willian at Old Trafford, according to The Daily Star.
The Brazil international was one of a few shining lights in the Blues’ woeful season under Mourinho last time out, and netted 11 times in all competitions to deservedly win the club’s Player of the Season award.
However, the 28-year-old has fallen out of favour at Stamford Bridge under new manager Antonio Conte, and has been restricted to just six Premier League starts so far.
Although a few niggling injuries and the death of his mother is a big reason behind this, Willian was not even included in the squad for the trip to Middlesbrough last weekend, and hasn’t appeared for the club since their 2-0 win over Southampton on October 30.
And, given that the 28-year-old worked well under Mourinho before the Portuguese lost his job in December last year, the United boss is reportedly targeting a move for the winger in January.
United have lacked a bit of creative spark at times this season but, given that Willian netted seven of his 11 goals last season while Mourinho was at the club, the United manager clearly knows how to get the best out of him.
The forward, who scored for his country in their win over Venezuela last month, may set United back £40 million, but if can recreate the same form for the Red Devils as he did for Chelsea last season, it could turn out to be money well spent.
