Mourinho ready to offload £300,000-a-week Manchester United star

Manchester United are reportedly ready to run down England international Wayne Rooney’s contract in order to offload him, according to the Mirror.

The Premier League club, who currently sit sixth in the top-flight standings after their recent 1-1 draw against Stoke City, face a £26m conundrum as the forward still has 20 months remaining on his current contract at Old Trafford.

The 30-year-old, who is captain of his club and country, has scored one goal and provided four assists in 10 appearances in all competitions for the Red Devils so far this season.

Rooney, who featured in England’s recent 2018 World Cup qualifiers against Malta and Slovenia, was booed by home supporters during the first fixture at Wembley Stadium last weekend.

The report suggests that United are now faced with a a dilemma, as with Rooney earning £300,000-a-week on his current contract, winding down his deal until next summer will cost the club a whopping £26m.

The Mirror also go on to suggest that Major League Soccer outfits and the mega rich Chinese Super League will be waiting in the wings to snap up the England skipper if he is offloaded by the Old Trafford outfit next summer.
