The flip-side of Austin’s fine form is the dire situation in East London. In July of this year, West Ham vice chairman, Karren Brady, said: “Be in no doubt, we are part of the most successful stadium migration in history.”

Those comments look rather premature at the moment, with five defeats from six Premier League games so far this season, with their only success being a last minute win against Bournemouth in their first game at the London Stadium, which seems a long time ago now.

After captain Mark Noble described their defence as “laughable”, it is clear that there is a lot to do to fix the problems on and off the pitch, before it become irreparable.
