Manchester United have been dealt a huge blow in their reported pursuit of Portugal international forward Goncalo Guedes, according to Record (via the Daily Star).

The Premier League side, who dropped down to eighth in the English top-flight standings over the weekend following their goalless encounter at Old Trafford against newly promoted Burnley, have been linked with a move for the highly-rated Benfica winger ahead of the forthcoming January transfer window.

The 19-year-old, who has two senior international caps for his country, has scored two goals and provided four assists in 13 appearances in all competitions for the Liga NOS outfit so far this season.

However Guedes, who has been with the Portuguese giants since 2005, is understood to want to stay at Benfica until the end of the 2016/17 campaign.

Having come through the club’s youth ranks, the young winger has become an important player of boss Rui Vitoria’s first-team squad at the Estadio da Luz, hence the Red Devils’ interest and reported scouting trip(s).
